RASAM


Rasam is a South Indian Soup. It is eaten separately as soup or with Rice. In Tamil language, Rasam means Juice. Prepared with Tamarind or Tomatoes juices with Spices.

There are different king of Rasams





  • Tomato rasam,
  •  Lemon Rasam,
  • Meriyala/Milagu (Pepper) rasam,
  • Neem flower rasam,
  • Ginger rasam,
  • Garlic Rasam,
  • Pineapple Rasam,
  • Parupu (Dal) rasam, etc.


  • I will Start with the Easy one i.e. Lemon Rasam....


    Lemon Rasam
    A sour soup made with lemon juice.


    Ingredients

    Serve  - 4
    Time - 25- 30 mints

    Lemon - 2
    Curry Leaves
    Coriander (Dhania) - leaves or powder
    Asafetida (hing)
    Green Chilli (Hari Mirch) - 2
    Green gram split(Arhar dal) Boiled
    Tomato  - 1
    Turmeric Powder (Haldi)
    Cumin Seeds (Jeera) - Powdered form
    Black Pepper (Kali mirch) - Powdered form
    Musturd
    Oil - 2 tablespoon
    Water - 4 cups



    Method

    Chop green Chillies and Tomatoes.
    In Pan or pressure cooker boil 4 cups of water. Add tomatoes, Dhania, green chillis, curry leaves, cumin seeds (powder form), black pepper (Powder form), Turmeric, Hing and Salt.



    Add dal and add 2 more cups of water. Boil it for 5-10 mints(in pressure cooker 1 whistle).
    For seasoning; in oil add musturd seeds and curry leaves.

    Add seasoning and let it cool down. Then add lemon juice.

    You can serve it with papad and cutney.
